Rochestown House stands as one of Ireland’s pioneering Passivhaus social housing developments, an exemplar of how deep retrofit and new-build extensions can deliver lasting social and environmental value. Acting as Passivhaus consultants, Mosart supported the project team in achieving certified energy performance across all dwellings, combining advanced insulation, airtightness, and mechanical ventilation strategies to ensure superior comfort and minimal running costs.
This scheme demonstrates how Passive House principles can be applied sensitively within existing communities, preserving architectural character while achieving dramatic reductions in energy demand. The result is a model for sustainable public housing, healthy, low-carbon, and cost-effective to run, showcasing the potential of retrofit-led regeneration in Ireland’s social housing sector.
