Whitehaven Debuts as a Model for Sustainable Social Housing
A big congratulations to Tuath and Cairn Homes on the official opening of the Whitehaven Passivhaus scheme this morning. Even on a freezing North Dublin day, the atmosphere was anything but cold. Tuath also released its 2024 ESG Report, an apt backdrop in the courtyard of their first completed Passivhaus project in Ireland.
The event brought together an impressive group of leaders including Bronagh D’Arcy, Deputy CEO of Tuath, Mayor of Fingal Cllr Tom O’Leary, Minister for Housing James Browne, and Tuath Director Will McCabe. Their presence underscored the significance of Whitehaven not only as a housing development, but as a national milestone for low-energy, low-carbon living.
Mosart’s Role in a Ground-Breaking Project
Mosart is proud to be the Passivhaus Designer behind this remarkable scheme. Whitehaven represents a new benchmark for sustainable housing in Ireland, demonstrating how high-performance design can be delivered at scale without compromising comfort, quality or affordability.
Beyond design, Mosart is supporting a comprehensive post occupancy evaluation, installing and monitoring 1,100 sensors that track energy efficiency, indoor comfort and user experience. This dataset will become an invaluable resource for future policy, planning and design decisions, helping shape Ireland’s next generation of sustainable homes.
A Moment of Connection
The morning included a personal highlight as Tomás O’Leary reconnected with fellow Enniscorthy native Minister Browne, adding a touch of warmth to an already memorable event.
Recognition for the wider team
Whitehaven reflects the expertise, precision and care of many people. A special shout-out to the wider team whose work brought this project from concept to reality:
Aonghus Rooney, Denis Manzke, Carly Sterling, Hugh Mockler, Brian Fegan, Stephen O’Shea, James Shanahan, Jennifer Whitty, Paul Grennan and Fran Lynch.
Whitehaven marks an important milestone, not only for Tuath and Cairn Homes, but for Ireland’s transition toward healthier, more resilient, genuinely energy-efficient housing.
Mosart is honoured to be part of that journey.
